ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Robyn is a teacher, lecturer, presenter and researcher. She has been involved in Orff Schulwerk organisations, committees and training for over 35 years. For many years, Robyn taught in schools, from pre-school to upper Secondary, then in universities as an academic, teaching Creative Arts and Educational Psychology, and completing a PhD. Most recently, Robyn has been working with senior citizens, teaching “chair dancing”, and designing a chair percussion instrument to make playing performing accessible to all.
During Robyn’s career, she became fascinated in cognitive neuroscience and how humans learn, and especially, the implications for teaching and pedagogy. She has presented at many conferences, courses and seminars both throughout Australia and internationally on how neuroscience can be embedded in pedagogical practice.
Robyn has been the recipient of many teaching awards, including university teaching awards, Award of Honour from the Australian National Council of Orff Schulwerk and most recently, The Distinguished Service Award 2025 from the Professional Teachers Council for contributions to music education. Robyn’s sessions and workshops are designed to lead participants through experiences that embody musical learning and reflect on the neuroscience that underpins the practice.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
What has neuroscience research revealed about strong learning? How do we develop deep knowledge and understanding? What has attention got to do with memory? These questions and more will be presented in sessions where the cognitive neuroscience will be discussed, put into practice in the music activities, and then reflected upon to empower teachers to embed this understanding in their classroom practice.
